Mishti Doi is a popular Bengali Dessert made with just 3 ingredients. As simple as that. Doi means Dahi or Curd and Mishti means sweet. Basically it's sweetened Yoghurt. It's made and allowed to set in earthen pots. It's served chilled for a nostalgic experience.
This version that iam sharing here is a baked one. It is absolutely delicious. Creamy and luscious to the core. And made effortlessly too.
Nolen Gur or liquid Date Palm Jaggery is used in this for that authentic touch. Though it has Condensed Milk, fresh Milk Cream and strained Yoghurt, it can't be a perfect without the use of Nolen Gur. Therefore if available and handy, use of it is always recommended.
Whisk away all the ingredients to an amazing lip-smacking Dessert ready in just a few minutes to be relished and enjoyed on any given day. Though it can be served warm like I always prefer. It is also served super chilled for that awesome treat. In Summers, it is best served chilled. It has an altogether different experience. For me, either warm or cold, Mishti Doi is always my go to quickie and a healthy homemade fresh and pure Dessert that's a heavenly bliss.

Steps

40-45 minutes
  1. 1

First of all to proceed with the recipe, add curd to a cheesecloth over a strainer and keep some weights on it. Allow it to drain all the whey from the curd. Set aside for an hour.

  2. 2

Meanwhile preheat the oven on 180° and set the timer for about an hour. Do not worry about the timings. The first 15 minutes are used up for preheating the oven.

  3. 3

After it's ready, add the strained yoghurt to a bowl. Also add in the fresh cream and the condensed milk. And finally a tablespoon of date palm jaggery liquid. Whisk that up really well so that it becomes smooth and creamy.

  4. 4

Add about 2 glasses of water to a baking pan. Now add the yoghurt mix that we prepared to a separate pan or ramekins or clay pots whichever is handy and convenient to you. After adding it to a small 4" pan, I placed it in the waterbath.

  5. 5

Next is to bake it for a good 25-30 minutes or as required because different ovens have different temperature settings. Mine took almost 35-40 minutes. That's it. Insert a toothpick to check whether it's done. It should come out clean.

  6. 6

Lo and behold! Creamy and luscious Baked Mishti Doi is all ready to be devoured. Let it come down to the room temperature at first. Then refrigerate until chilled for 2 hours. And then you are good to go.

Garnish with some fried nuts on top. Serve it chilled to your loved ones and friends alike. Enjoy!

Homemaker by choice and a passionate cook by heart. An aspiring cook who actually never knew anything about Cooking until i became a mother myself. With Motherhood came the responsibilities as well and this was the turning point in my life.I started to learn the ABC's of cooking, taking help from my mother and my MIL. And time just flew. I spread my wings higher and higher. With my love for excellence and innovation, i stepped into a world of homecooks with my exposure to Cookpad one fine day on the social media. And there was no looking back since then and i have not only shared recipes here on this wonderful platform but also have made some lovely friends as well. Today iam successful because of my hard work, dedication and loads of good wishes of my family and my kids in particular.
