Bengali Style Dal Bhorta is made with Masoor Dal and some spices. It is usually served with Panta Bhat (fermented rice).

First, take the masoor dal (red lentils) in a bowl, wash it with water 3-4 times to clean it thoroughly. Add water to the dal and cover it, setting it aside for 30 minutes or an hour.

After 30 minutes or an hour, drain the water from the dal and pour it into a pan. Add turmeric powder and salt, then add water and mix well. Place it on medium heat and let it simmer until the dal is cooked and all the water is absorbed. Once the dal is cooked and the water has dried up, turn off the gas and transfer the cooked dal to a plate.

Now, heat some oil in a pan and sauté dried red chilies and garlic cloves until fragrant.

Place the roasted dried red chilies and garlic cloves in a plate, add salt, and mash them well. Then add crushed onion, finely chopped green chilies, oil, and coriander, and mix everything well with your hands.

Now, add the pre-cooked masoor dal to this mixture and mash it well with your hands. The masoor dal bhorta is ready. Now, shape the mixture into small balls. Place cooked rice on a plate, arrange the dal bhorta balls on top, and garnish with coriander and pure ghee.

Place the prepared Masoor Dal Bhorata over cooked rice, add a spoonful of pure ghee on top. Serve with wheat flour rotis, green chilies, round slices of onion, and a slice of lemon.
