Pineapple Panna is a refreshing and tangy Indian drink made with fresh pineapples, ginger, green chillies, optional sugar and some spices that are aromatic as well as cooling and also support digestive health.

Panna, also pronounced as Panha, is a traditional Indian beverage that is typically prepared during the summer season to help cool the body and quench thirst.

This takes me back to my childhood when my grandma used to make this for us often during the summer months. This can also be made with green mango and we enjoyed that too.

Ingredients

30 minutes
4 servings
  1. 1fresh ripe pineapple
  2. 2 inchpiece ginger
  3. 1green chili, optional
  4. 1 teaspoonsugar, optional
  5. 2 teaspoonscumin seeds
  6. 2 teaspoonsfennel seeds
  7. 1 teaspoonblack salt or regular salt, adjust to taste
  8. Ice as desired
  9. 1 bottlechilled club soda

Cooking Instructions

30 minutes
  1. 1

Remove the tough spiky outer skin of the pineapple and cut it into cubes. Then boil the pineapple cubes for about 10 minutes till they’re soft and darken a bit in color.

  2. 2

Add the pineapple cubes to a blender, drop the green chili, a sprinkle of black salt, and the ginger and blend well.

  3. 3

Dry roast the cumin seeds and the fennel seeds for a couple minutes until they release their fragrance and turn a little bit darker.

  4. 4

Once cool, grind the spices to a fine powder. This can easily be made ahead and kept in an airtight container.

  5. 5

In a serving glass, pour the blended pineapple until it fills about a quarter of the glass. If the pineapple is slightly tart, consider adding some sugar while blending to achieve the desired sweetness.

  6. 6

Add ice to the glass and fill it to the top with club soda. Stir the mixture thoroughly.

  7. 7

Sprinkle some of the roasted spices and then stir once again and enjoy! Adjust seasoning as needed. 😊
