Ingredients

2–4 servings
  1. 1Broccoli (large head, cut into florets, stems peeled & sliced)
  2. 2 tbspButter
  3. 1 tbspOlive oil
  4. 3–4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  5. from 1 lemon Lemon zest
  6. from ½–1 lemon (to taste) Lemon juice
  7. to taste Salt
  8. to taste Freshly cracked black pepper
  9. 0.25 tsp(optional) Red pepper flakes
  10. 0.25 tspGround mustard
  11. 0.25 cup(optional) Grated Parmesan
  12. 2 tbspWater or broth

Steps

    Heat a large skillet over medium-high. Add olive oil and 1 tbsp butter until sizzling.

  2. 2

    Add broccoli in a single layer. Do not stir for 2–3 min to brown.

  3. 3

    Flip broccoli, add remaining butter, garlic, red pepper flakes, and ground mustard. Sauté 1–2 min.

  4. 4

    Add water or broth, cover, and steam for 2 min until tender.

  5. 5

    Remove lid, let moisture evaporate. Add lemon zest, juice, salt, and pepper.

  6. 6

    Toss with Parmesan (optional) and let it melt slightly before serving.

Tips

Don’t overcrowd the pan; use a large skillet. Browning adds flavor, so don’t rush this step. Add garlic after the broccoli starts cooking for the best aroma.
