The inspiration for this veggie side dish came from Wolfgang Puck's Penn Quarter restaurant, with a few changes. Sweet, flavorful, and crunchy, even kids who turn their noses up at vegetables will be asking for these.

You'll only use about 1/3 of the dressing in this recipe. Store the leftover dressing in a covered container in the fridge to use with other veggies, as a dipping sauce for eggrolls, wing sauce, etc. Let me know how you use your leftover sauce!

Ingredients

  1. For the sauce:
  2. 1/4 cupsweet soy sauce
  3. 1 T.sweet chili sauce
  4. 1 T.ginger vinegar
  5. 1 oz.vegetable oil
  6. 1 T.brown sugar
  7. 1 tsp.chili flakes
  8. 1 T.toasted sesame oil
  9. For the green beans:
  10. 2 T.vegetable oil
  11. 1-1/2 cupgreen beans
  12. 1/4 cupcandied walnuts
  13. 2green onions, thinly sliced
  14. 2 tsp.sesame seeds, toasted

  1. 1

    In a measuring cup, whisk together all the sauce ingredients and set aside. Roughly chop the candied walnuts and set aside.

    Heat the oil in a skillet on medium-high heat. Stir fry the green beans about 2 minutes, until just tender but still crispy. Remove from heat. Add just 1/4 cup of the dressing and toss to coat all the beans. Add the walnuts, green onions, and sesame seeds and toss. Serve immediately.

My 5 siblings and I were raised in the 1950s and 60s midwest by a major foodie dad who was a great cook. We all learned to cook at a young age. I love to cook for my 2 daughters, 7 grandkids, 8 great-grandkids, and extended family. My 4 year old great-grandson makes my day when he says "Nan sure is a good cooker!". :-). I'm trying to get all my favorite recipes saved here so my family and friends all have easy access to them even after I'm gone. My Cookpad collection is their inheritance, so I try to add my comments and memories to each recipe; that way they'll remember me with a smile when they use the recipes years from now. Recently I've called on my grandkids (all adults and avid cooks) to send me their own favorite recipes, with their prep photos, so we can collect everyone's favorites together in one place.
