Ingredients

  • 1 cupBengal gram
  • to tasteSalt -
  • 1 - 3 cupsWater
  • 1/2 teaspoonTurmeric Powder -
  • 1 teaspoonchilly Red powder -
  • 1 teaspoonCoriander powder -
  • 1 teaspoonChana masala (optional) -
  • 1 teaspoonGaram masala powder (optional) -
  • 3 - 4 podsGarlic -
  • 2 - 3 tablespoonsOil -
  • 1 teaspoonMustard seeds -
  • 1Curry leaves - stalk or more
  • 2 tablespoonscoconut Grated -
  • 1 teaspoonGinger paste -

Steps

  1. 1

    Soak the gram overnight or for about 8 to 12 hours

  2. 2

    Cook the gram with all the powders,paste and salt to taste with less water. Strain excess water after cooking

  3. 3

    In a wok, heat oil. Add mustard seeds. Once they pop, add cut garlic pods. Once they turn slightly brown,add the curry leaves.

  4. 4

    Add grated coconut and roast for about a minute.

  5. 5

    Add the gram into this and mix well

  6. 6

    Check salt level and add if required

  7. 7

    Close the wok with a lid. Simmer heat and let it cook for about a minute

  8. 8

    Turn off the heat

  9. 9

    Serve hot
