Spicy Chicken Burger McSpicy Style

Craving a burger but McDonald's isn't here yet, and even KFC just arrived a year ago, but it's not halal and has pork on the menu. So, I tried making a McSpicy chicken burger like McDonald's, but since no one sells burger buns at the bakery, I improvised with pita bread because it's somewhat similar to a burger bun, haha, just making do 😂. According to my husband, it tastes similar to the McSpicy chicken burger from McDonald's, especially if you use a burger bun, it might be even better.
Happy trying 😊

Steps
- 1
Flatten the chicken breast or thigh fillet with a knife, then pound it with a roller or pestle. Soak in milk for at least 1 hour to make it more tender and juicy. Store in the fridge (this step can be skipped).
- 2
Drain the milk and do not rinse the chicken. Add 1 chopped garlic clove, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and enough pepper. Mix the seasoning evenly. Then let it sit in the fridge for half an hour or more.
- 3
In a separate bowl, mix 1/4 cup all-purpose flour and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Add 1/4 teaspoon pepper, 1/4 teaspoon chili powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir well.
- 4
Beat 1 egg, 1 1/2 tablespoons chili sauce, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and 1 tablespoon water.
- 5
Coat the chicken in the flour mixture evenly. Then dip it into the beaten egg. Finally, coat it again in the flour mixture.
- 6
Fry in medium oil until cooked through.
- 7
Mix 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon sugar in a bowl. Then spread on both sides of the bread.
- 8
Add the chicken and lettuce to the bread. Serve.
- 9
I didn't use burger buns because they weren't available, so I substituted with pita bread. I think it's just as delicious. Here's how the pita bread looks.
