Steps

Soak the red lentils in about 1 1/2 cups of clean drinking water for 5 minutes.

In a cooking pot, heat oil and add the chopped onions.

Add the ginger garlic paste next.

Saute them for a minute or two until light brown.

Now add the green chillies, chopped tomatoes and the rest of the spices.

Cover and simmer on low heat for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes when the tomatoes are cooked, add salt and the lentils along with the water in they had been soaked.

Cover and simmer for 15 minutes more. In between, stir once or twice very carefully so that it does not turn mushy.

Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander.

Serve hot with chapatis or phulkas.
