this plat surprise makes a nice change from the traditional French stick.
Steps

Add the flour and salt to a mixing bowl, stir in the sugar and yeast, then rub in the butter. Add the water and mix to form a soft dough.

Divide the dough into 3 equal portions and knead the first one for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic shaping into a long sausage shape towards the end. Put to one side while you knead the other 2 portions, kneading the grated cheese into one and knead for 10 minutes and the garlic into the other and knead this one for 10 minutes also.

When you have 3 sausage shaped dough sticks it is time to plat them. Place all 3 side by side and carefully plat them in the traditional way.

Place carefully onto a baking tray and leave in a warm place to rise to double in size (about 1 hour).

Preheat the oven to 230C, gas mark 8.

Bake the plat for 15 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 200C, gas mark 6 and bake for a further 15 - 20 minutes, until the bread twist is golden brown and sounds hollow when the bottom is tapped.
