And salt and cream of tartar, Beating until stiff but not dry.

Add sugar gradually, beating constantly until very stiff peaks form.

Fold in chocolate bits and peppermint.

Drop from a teaspoon onto foil or ungreased heavy paper on a cookie sheet.

Bake 35 to 40 minutes.
