Ingredients

  1. 1 teaspoonghee
  2. 1/2 teaspooncumin seeds
  3. 1onion finely chopped
  4. 2 cupsfinely cut mixed vegetables
  5. 1tomato finely chopped
  6. 1 cupmasoor daal
  7. 1 teaspoonchilli flakes
  8. 1/2 teaspoonturmeric
  9. 1 teaspooncumin powder
  10. 1 teaspooncoriander powder
  11. 1 cupoats
  12. 3 cupwater
  13. to tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash the masoor daal and soak for at least 30 minutes.

    In a pressure cooker pan add ghee and cumin seeds and sauté until cumin seeds are brown. Add chopped onions and sauté for a minute. Add vegetables and mix and let it cook for couple of minutes. Add tomatoes and mix. Once mixed add moong daal and add salt, turmeric and chilli powder and mix. Lastly add oats and mix and add 3 cups of water and let it cook for 3 whistles or if cooking without pressure cooker cook for 15 to 20 minutes stirring occasionally.

Hi all, my name is Rekha. I am Indian by birth, born in Uganda, East Africa, I now live in Wilby, Northamptonshire/England.I retired at the age of 60 due to severe arthritis. I am married, a mother and grandmother.I learnt to cook from my parents at a very young age of seven. I started to cook simple dishes for the family and gradually learnt how to cook. My mum use to cook at our shop where we sold Indian sweets and savouries. I have learnt a lot from my mum. I started cooking fusion dishes and learning from others. My strong point is making sweet dishes and innovating new dishes. I can improvise and be creative in leftover dishes.I love being on Cookpad because I can share and learn new recipes. I have also made a lot of friends.
