Place the broth in a pot and heat. Once hot, add salt, galangal, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and shallots. Boil until the aroma of the herbs is released. Season with sugar, fish sauce, and tamarind paste.

Once it reaches a rolling boil, add the shrimp. When the shrimp change color, add basil and sawtooth coriander, pressing the herbs into the hot soup. Turn off the heat immediately. Add fresh chilies and lime juice. Taste for a balance of spicy, sour, and salty flavors.
