Vietnamese Floating Rice Dumplings (Bánh Trôi Nước)

I made these yesterday but just now have time to share with everyone! This is a simple dessert that doesn't require an oven. Bánh trôi is not only enjoyed on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month, but also makes a delicious breakfast or afternoon snack.

I made these yesterday but just now have time to share with everyone! This is a simple dessert that doesn't require an oven. Bánh trôi is not only enjoyed on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month, but also makes a delicious breakfast or afternoon snack.
Steps
- 1
Prepare the flour and sugar.
- 2
First, divide the dough into long ropes about 5/8 to 3/4 inch thick (1.5–2 cm), then cut them into pieces about the length of your fingertip. This helps make evenly sized dumplings. Roll each piece into a ball, flatten it, and place a sugar cube in the center. Repeat until all the dough is used.
- 3
Drop each dumpling into a pot of boiling water.
- 4
When the dumplings float to the surface, they are cooked. Remove them and place them in a bowl of clean water to prevent sticking.
- 5
Transfer the dumplings to a plate. Finally, dip your wet fingertip into a bowl of toasted sesame seeds and dab some onto each dumpling to make them look more appealing.
