Chilli Bites (daltjies)

Cooking nor baking was never a hobby of mine. I even flunked simply frying an egg until I got into the kitchen with eagerness to help during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. This was the very first thing I made, that came out right. This motivated me to want to learn more about cooking and master the craft of cooking/baking. Thus becoming something I made repeatedly (repeatedly making it right I might add) and it has since become my most favourite recipe to date which is mainly made during Ramadan. Making chilli bites was the beginning of my cooking journey (learning how to cook) and loving the process of cooking. Therefore this treat has a personal meaning to me. Enjoy 😊

Steps
- 1
Throw the pack of chilli bite mix into a clean mixing bowl.
- 2
Add the chopped onion and green pepper. Add the chilli flakes of the green pepper as well.
- 3
Add the egg and the spices and mix with desired amount of cold water (mixture shouldn't be too thin nor too thick).
- 4
Add about 5-6 tbl flour and mix all ingredients (including chopped spinach) together. Mixture should be firm but not too firm.
- 5
Heat oil in a pan and dip a tablespoon in some clean oil and put in spoonfuls of the mixture to make a round shape. Fry until golden brown and occasionally poke with a fork to ensure that mixture is properly cooked inside.
- 6
Allow to cool in a strainer and serve with some dip or as is.
