Ingredients

  1. 1 cup- Rice Flour
  2. 1/2 cup- Grated Cocount
  3. 1 1/2 cup- Water
  4. 1/2 tsp- Salt
  5. 1/2 tsp- Instant Yeast
  6. 3 tsp- Sugar

Steps

  1. 1

    Take steam cooker. In steamer plate add 1 cup of rice flour and steam it for about 15 minutes. Let it cool down for about 10 minutes. Note : This will make the rice flour extra soft.

    Once the rice flour cools down add in 1 cup of water to make a paste form. By doing this, no lumps will be formed during grinding.

    In a mixing jar, add in grated cocount, salt, sugar, Instant yeast and the paste form rice flour. Add in remaining water and grind till smooth texture.

    Transfer to a large bowl. Allow it to ferment for about 4 to 5 hours. Note: Fermentation time differs according to climatic conditions. In cold conditions, will require more time to ferment.

    To make appam, heat a non-stick pan. Add one ladle of batter.
    As the batter spreads, cover the pan with a lid and cook in medium heat for a couple of minutes.

  6. 6

    As the appam is cooked, if you open the pan you can see that holes have formed on top of the appam.Transfer it to the serving plate.

    Serve the delicious appam with egg curry, vegetable stew or any curry of your choice!
