Ingredients

  • 1 cupmix dal(pigeon peas,chickpeas,red lentils,black and green)
  • 2onions roughly chopped
  • 1tomato roughly chopped
  • 2green chillies roughly chopped
  • 5-7garlic cloves
  • 1 inchginger cut into pieces
  • 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  • 1 tspcumin seeds
  • 1bayleaf
  • 1 inchcinnamon stick
  • 2cloves
  • 1star anise
  • 1 tspred chilli powder
  • 1/2 tspgaram masala powder
  • 1/4 tspkasuri methi
  • 10saffron strands soak into 2tsp warm milk
  • 2 tspfresh cream
  • 1/2 cupcoriander mint leaves finely chopped
  • 1 tspclarified butter
  • For dhungar
  • 2 piecescharcoal
  • 1/2 tspclarified butter
  • 1/4 tspshahi jeera(cumin)

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash and soak in 2 cup of water for half hour. Now add tomato, onions, green chilies,ginger, garlic,turmeric powder and salt to dal, pressure cook for 3-4 whistle, switch off flame and allow to release pressure from cooker.

    Mix dal with help of hand blender. Now add 2 cups of water and give dal one boil add saffron milk and cream mix well and cook for 4-5 minutes.

    Heat pan with ghee, add cumin seed when splutter add bayleaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise saute for 15 second add red chilli powder,garam Masala powder, asafoetida,coriander and mint leaves and temper on dal.

  4. 4

    Heat coal directly on flame, put burning coal in bowl place it on centre of dal pour ghee and shahi jeera on coal cover lid for 3-4 minutes, remove bowl from dal and ready to serve with jeera rice.
