Steps

Soak mixed dal and rice for 30 mins. Blend a bunch of freshly chopped spinach leaves into a thick gravy.

In a pan, take some oil. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, chilli garlic paste, diced tomatoes. Add spinach gravy to it. Add all the spices and salt to taste. Cover the lid and let it cook till oil separates from the gravy.

Add soaked dal and rice to this and let it simmer till it's cooked. Temper the khichdi with ghee, red chillies and cumin seeds. Garnish with some onions.
