Ingredients

  1. 12 ozbag Great Northern Beans
  2. 2 1/2 cupswater
  3. 2 tspchicken soup base or 2 cups chicken broth
  4. 1medium onion
  5. 4garlic cloves minced
  6. 5 slicesbacon, cut small or ham
  7. 1 cupshredded carrots
  8. 2bay leaves
  9. 1 tspground mustard
  10. 1/2 tspdried rosemary
  11. 1 tspdried parsley
  12. 1/4 tspblack pepper or more to taste
  13. Pinchsalt

Cooking Instructions

    Rinse beans in colander. Sorting out any discolored beans.

  2. 2

    Ina large pot over high heat bring water and chicken base or broth to a boil. Add the beans, onion, garlic and bacon and bring to boil for 10 minutes.

    Now add the bay leaves, carrots, ground mustard and rosemary.

    Let boil for 2 hours and 30 minutes or more if needed. Stir occasionally and check your water level from time to time.

    Top with dried parsley, a dollop of sour cream and green onions and or homemade cornbread.
