Ingredients

At least 3 minutes per side
Serves 2 servings
  • 1large egg
  • 1little butter (unsalted or lightly salted)
  • 1little granulated sugar
  • Jam, honey, or chocolate spread (optional)
  • 2 1/2 tablespoonswhiskey or Bailey’s
  • 2 1/2 tablespoonsinstant coffee
  • Whipped cream (store-bought or homemade)

Steps

At least 3 minutes per side
  1. 1

    Step 1: French Toast:
    *Whisk 1 egg with a little milk (add enough milk to reach your desired consistency). Cut 2 slices of sandwich bread in half diagonally, then dip each side into the egg mixture until well soaked.

  2. 2

    Step 1 (continued): *In a skillet, melt a small amount of butter with a little sugar. Cook the bread slices on both sides until golden. Sprinkle lightly with granulated sugar and flip to coat both sides.
    *Once both sides are golden brown, serve immediately while hot.

  3. 3

    Step 1 (continued): Top with your favorite spread or enjoy plain. Here, I used sparkling milk chocolate spread and Peach, Yuzu, and Chia Seed jam.

  4. 4

    Step 2: Irish Coffee:
    For 1 tall drink:
    *Mix 1 1/2 tablespoons instant coffee with 1 1/2 teaspoons whiskey. Add hot water while stirring, then top with whipped cream. Sprinkle with cocoa powder and enjoy! (For a less sweet alcoholic version, you can use Bailey’s instead of whiskey.) (This part of the recipe is for adults only.)
