At first I was not going to upload this recipe as some people find it hard to find non bitter or slightly bitter mocha and that's the reason i didn't took step wise pictures of this either, but this one was too yummy to let go off. Hence, I had to share.

Ingredients

5-6 servings
  • 2Banana flower (mocha)
  • 1/2 litreWater to boil
  • to tasteSalt
  • 3-4Potatoes peeled and cut into four halves
  • 1/2Coconut grated
  • 1 tspturmeric powder
  • 1/2 tspcoriander powder
  • 1 tspbhaja masala/ garam masala
  • 1/2 tspAmchoor powder
  • 4 tbspgram flour
  • As required water (for boras/ pakoras)
  • HandfulCoriander leaves(for garnishing)
  • As required Oil for deep fry
  • 1 tbspfor the sabji/ chochori:
  • 2-3green chillies
  • 1/2 tspBlack pepper

  1. 1

    Now first of all peel the flower and taste it if it's slightly bitter it's fine if it's too bitter then it's of no use.

    Now, for peeling this you gave to peel every flower strand and pick out the visible black stick as it's not meant to be eaten.

    Now, wash these and put them in a pressure cooker with water and 1 tsp salt. After 2-3 whistles it cool.

    Make the simple batter for besan baris or pakoras using water besan and salt, pepper.

    Now in a pan add oil, to it add, two bay leaves, ginger paste and green chillies slited.

    Add in the peeled and four halves potatoes. Add the salt, 1/4 tsp.when the potatoes are softened add the boiled flowers, without the water. Then add in the turmeric, amchur, and half of the bhaja masala or garam masala.

    Now, grate the 1/2 Coconut, and add it too. Check salt.Sauté 3 mins. Add in the pakoras/ baris and cover and cook at low flame till everything leaves a pleasant aroma.

    In the end, add the left, garam masala/ bhaja masala, and some more grated coconut and top it off with coriander leaves.

    This will go with, any rice but will make a heavenly pair with gobindo bhog rice. This might look a lil bit odd but tastes really good! Also it's a great option for ppl who don't eat onion and garlic on particular days or so.
