Cooking Instructions
- 1
Slice the chikuwa into rounds. Cut the green peppers in half, then slice into thin strips against the grain to allow the flavor to penetrate.
- 2
Put water (no oil) and mentsuyu in a pan and stir the ingredients from Step 1 over medium heat until the liquid evaporates.
- 3
Turn off the heat when the liquid is gone, then drizzle on some sesame oil and toss everything together. Once evenly combined, it's done. Top with ground sesame, if available.
- 4
Addendum: If you like green beans, slightly increase the amount of mentsuyu, and make with green peppers and green beans. It's a delightful dish with lots of greens.

Stir-fried Bell Peppers and Chikuwa Stir-fried Bell Peppers and Chikuwa
I wanted to do something with the bell peppers in the refrigerator. The chikuwa fish sticks are seasoned with salt, so add half the chicken soup stock and taste before adding more. I think 1 teaspoon is pretty salty, so it's good if you're using this as a drinking appetizer.I usually add 2/3 teaspoon of chicken stock. Crush the sesame seeds between your thumb and forefinger. For 1 to 2 side servings. Recipe by Kamerin cookpad.japan -

I entered Itoen's recipe contest, and won the 20 different vegetables they use in their vegetable juice.I used the green peppers and red peppers from that to think up a new recipe.Seasoning the thinly-sliced chikuwa with soy sauce and potato starch flour beforehand gives a meaty texture. It looks pretty if you use red pepper, but it tastes great with just green peppers. Chikuwa and Bell Pepper Stir-Fry with Okonomiyaki Sauce Chikuwa and Bell Pepper Stir-Fry with Okonomiyaki Sauce
In the Kansai region we use different sauces for everything - okonomiyaki, yakisoba, takoyaki. They're delicious and worth having around -- it's just a bit challenging to get through all of them.Add the sauce to the pan after turning off the heat. If you put it in when the pan is hot it may spit or get burned and char unpleasantly. Recipe by Marrietty cookpad.japan -
Chrysanthemum Greens and Chikuwa Fishstick Kinpira Chrysanthemum Greens and Chikuwa Fishstick Kinpira
I mostly use rice with mixed grains, vegetables, fish ( or low calorie meat ) for my husband's bentos, to combat his weight problem. This recipe is a favorite that makes frequent appearances in his bentos!Besides chikuwa, you could use boiled and dried baby sardines (chirimen jako) and tuna too Crush the roasted sesame seeds between your fingers instead of sprinkling them as is for a richer sesame aroma. Instead of using chili pepper, using ichimi togarashi (Japanese red chili pepper powder) or shichimi togarashi (Japanese red chili pepper mix) is also OK. For 4 servings.
