For Bentos: Easy Microwave Tamagoyaki (Rolled Omelette)

Ever since I came up with this method, I haven't used a frying pan to make tamagoyaki.

I used a 10 cm x 6 cm (height) plate for this. If you use a plate that's too big, the omelette won't be very thick, so I recommend using a bowl shaped one. If the omelette comes out too tough, try adding a little more hot water the next time, or adjusting the microwave cooking time. Recipe by Nyamiane

Steps

  1. 1

    Put the sugar and dashi stock granules into a deep plate or bowl.

    Add 1 tablespoon of hot water and stir to dissolve the sugar and dashi granules. (I bought the tiny whisk in the photo at a 100 yen shop. I use it all the time.)

    Add the egg and mix well.

    Microwave for 1 minute. Take out and mix up the egg mixture.

    Microwave for another minute.

    Take it out, and cut into portions.

    Note: Our microwave oven operates at 500 W.
