Ingredients

  1. 1/4 cuptoor dal
  2. 1/4 cupfried moong dal
  3. 2 cupswater
  4. 1medium tomato chopped
  5. 2 cupspalak/ spinach (chopped)
  6. For tempering-
  7. 1 tbspghee
  8. 3/4 tspcumin seeds
  9. 1dried red chilli
  10. 1.tsp chopped ginger
  11. 1 clovechopped garlic
  12. 1green chilli
  13. 1 pinchhing
  14. 1/8 tspturmeric powder
  15. as per tasteSalt
  16. 1/4 tspsugar
  17. 1 tbspgandharaj lemon juice

    In a bowl add toor,moong dal & rinse it very well in water.

    Cook the dal in pressure cook for two whistles with 2 cups water,salt & turmeric powder.

    Heat a kadai with ghee.Add cumin seeds & dried red chilli.

    When the cumin begins to splutter add chopped tomatoes, ginger, garlic,green chilli.Saute well for a mint.Add hing.

    Then add the chopped palak/ spinach.Saute for 3-4 mints until the leaves wilt.

    Add cooked dal, salt, turmeric powder If needed pour some warm water.Mix well & cook on medium heat until palak softens.

    Switch off the flame when spinach dal reaches desired consistency.When the palak dal cools down slightly,add gandharaj lemon juice & mix.

    Serve dal palak hot with steam rice or chapati.
