Garlic in the microwave

Roasted garlic has a very nice flavour, very different from raw garlic.
The best way to achieve that is to wrap the garlic in aluminoum foil and roast in the oven for about an hour. But this is very time consuming and of course energy consuming too. If you have other stuff baking in the oven, then of course put some garlic cloves in there too! But if you don't, or if you just need one roasted garlic only, or if you have limited time, then microwaving them is the next best thing! The colour and aroma won't be the same, but it is good enough!

Ingredients

  1. whole garlic
  2. 2 tbspwater
  3. 1 tspolive oil

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Cut the top of the garlic, so that you can see all the cloves inside.

  2. 2

Put the garlic(s) in a microwave safe bowl. Add a bit of water and pour some olive oil (or oil of your choice) to the top of the garlic. Rub it a bit so that the oil goes inside the garlic too.

  3. 3

Put in the microwave and cover. My microwave goes up to 800W and I used the 600W setting. Microwave them for 4 minutes, check and if needed continue microwaving for 1 min, as many times as needed. The cloves must become really soft.
->🚨Be very careful when you check, because there is steam under the cover.

  4. 4

Once nice and soft let them cool for a bit and then you can squeeze them and get the garlic cloves out. Don't worry, your hands won't smell afterwards! Make sure you get everything out. You can also use a knife or a spoon, or anything else you have handy to do that.

  5. 5

Done! You can now use your "roasted" garlic to make many delicious recipes, like -of course- garlic bread!
If you don't use them immediately, you can put the paste in a jar and keep in the fridge (better if you cover the top of the paste with some oil too), or put them in the freezer.

I live in Greece but I love to try and experiment with food from all over the world! I have 2 children that are grown up now and off to the University, but I consider it my great success that they both love to try new things, they can cook and actually love to do it! It is my firm belief that everyone can cook and the only thing to do is get in the kitchen and try it!

Oh no Stella. I burned it completely. It was not done after the first round so I put the garlic in the microwave again... :(
Probably my lid was not as airtight as yours and it didn't steam the garlic as well. I'll try again though! Great hack!
