Crispy sweet Chilli Beef and rice

I absolutely love Crispy chilli beef. It is one of my guaranteed go-to takeaway dishes and in all the years I have eaten it, I have never tried to make it.
So when the #fakeaway challenge started I couldn't wait to try making it myself. I pulled inspiration from a number of cookbooks and websites and then adjusted and tweaked it to make it my own version.
This is the sticky sweet chilli version but I equally love the plain salt and chilli version you get from UK takeaway places. It was so delicious. I'm bias but I'd say my homemade version was so much tastier than my local takeaway's one. I will be definitely making it again.

Steps
- 1
Combine all the marinade ingredients in a bowl. Cut steak into very thin strips and add to marinade for 15 min - 1 hour.
- 2
Combine all Sir fry sauce ingredients in a separate bowl and set one side.
- 3
Add your cornstarch to a wide bowl for easy dipping. Heat enough oil in a deep pan or wok too deep fry to a medium to hot heat.
- 4
Add the egg to your steak in the marinade and completely coat. Making sure your strips are separated as you dip your meat into cornflour to coat fully. Place each piece of coated beet into the hot oil and toss or turn till cooked through and golden brown all over. Cook in batches and remove to a paper towel to absorb access grease.
- 5
When all the meat is cooked, drain the oil and remove any broken crumbs. Into this hot pan add your sliced onion and bell peppers and lightly fry. Add your cooked beef strips back to the pan and then pour in your Sir fry sauce. Mix well to coat all ingredients with your sauce.
- 6
Add chopped chilli and spring onions on top.
- 7
To plate: Serve on top of rice or egg fried rice
