Steps

  1. 1

Peel the sweet potato, and cut into cubes. To remove the bitterness, prepare a bowl of water (not listed), and add the (1) salt.

  2. 2

Soak the sweet potato in the bowl of water. Drain, rinse under running water, and drain again really well.

  3. 3

Coat the sweet potato with sugar in a bowl. If the sugar is really grainy, add a little water.

  4. 4

Leave the sweet potato for about 5 minutes to let it absorb the sweetness. Add the plain flour into the bowl, and mix. Add water while adjusting the consistency of the batter.

  5. 5

Add the (2) salt to enhance the sweetness. Adjust the amounts of flour and sugar depending on the size and sweetness of the sweet potato.

  6. 6

If you like it nice and chewy, it will be the best if you make the batter rather thick like okonomiyaki batter.

  7. 7

If you like it rich and dense, make the batter firm enough to form peaks.

  8. 8

Pour the batter into a silicone steamer, microwave for 7 minutes at 600 W. After microwaving, let it steam for 3 minutes and it's done.

  9. 9

Twist the silicone steamer to remove the cake onto a sheet of aluminum foil. Cut into bite-sized pieces, and it's ready to serve.

  10. 10

If you cut it horizontally, you can hold it in the aluminum foil, and it's easy to eat.
