Refreshing Garlic Chives and Wakame Simmered with Jako

I wanted to use up my garlic chives.
The saltiness of the dish will depend on the jako, so adjust with the amount of chicken soup stock granules.
You can use Chinese 5-spice powder instead of the Szechuan pepper, if you prefer. It's also good without it. Recipe by Shimeji-ru
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cut the garlic chives into 5 cm lengths.
- 2
Combine the jako, water, and chicken soup stock granules in a pot and turn on the heat.
- 3
Once it comes to a boil, add the dried wakame and garlic chives. Simmer for 2~3 minutes until the wakame is re-hydrated.
- 4
Drizzle with sesame oil.
- 5
Transfer to a dish and sprinkle with Szechuan pepper to taste.
- 6
User "Mukarunasu-san" used this in a porridge. It's also delicious with pickles.

I used dried wakame seaweed and ended up with too much after rehydrating it.If you have any leftover wakame seaweed after making salad or soup, give this a try.Chikuwa and wakame seaweed give a good flavour to this dish. Drizzle soy sauce or mentsuyu on top before serving.Stir up the egg mixture when the edges start to set. Otherwise it will lose the nice yellow colour of the eggs and the result will turn out messy. Hijiki Seaweed & Soy Bean Simmer Hijiki Seaweed & Soy Bean Simmer
I attempted to recreate the flavor of my mother's hijiki soybean simmer. Instead of vegetable oil, I used sesame oil for stir frying for a touch. You can use pre-boiled soybeans, but note that the beans will slightly crumble. I used fresh shiitake but dried shiitake adds more flavor to the dish. Substitute the soaking liquid from the shiitake mushrooms for part of the water for a boost of umami. Try lotus root or konnyaku if you're looking for more vegetables to add in. You can also freeze the leftovers, by separating into individual servings. Recipe by Mu-noshippo. cookpad.japan -
