Ingredients

12 servings
  1. 2 cupall purpose flour
  2. 1/3 cupsunsweetened cocoa powder such as Scharffen Berger
  3. 4 tspbaking powder
  4. 1 teaspoonsalt
  5. 1 1/2 cupgranulated sugar
  6. 2/3 cupmilk
  7. 1 cupbutter melted
  8. 4 teaspoonsvanilla
  9. Topping
  10. 1/2 cupgranulated sugar
  11. 1 1/2 cupbrown sugar lightly packed
  12. 1/2 cupunsweetened cocoa powder such as Scharffen Berger
  13. Don't mix water into topping
  14. 3 cupsvery hot tap water
  15. Vanilla Ice Cream

Cooking Instructions

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cocoa powder. Create a well in the dry ingredients and pour in milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir together until a thick batter forms.

    Spread into an ungreased 9x13 casserole dish with high sides. As this will rise and bubble.

    In a separate bowl, stir sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder together. Sprinkle over the top of the batter evenly.

    Pour hot water onto a spoon over the entire thing {WITHOUT STIRRING A THING!}.

    Bake for 40 minutes or once the middle is set. {Be sure to place it on a baking sheet in case it bubbles over.} Serve HOT, with Ice Cream!

    Note* If you want to make this recipe ahead of time just make the brownie batter, spread into the casserole, mix the topping but hold off on sprinkling it on, and hole off on the hot water till you are ready to bake. Can make the day before.
