Dhaba style spicy mixed dal (with and without egg)

This mixed dal or as it is called in dhabas as "anda tadka" in Odisha is very nutritious and at the same time it's utterly delicious!!
It is spicy.leaves a lingering taste..
Goes well with roti/ tandoori roti.
I make it very usually at home and relish it with rice too..
Do try the recipe!!

Steps
- 1
Start by washing and soaking mixed dal in water overnight.
The next day wash it again and set it for boiling.
Add the above-mentioned ingredients.
Pressure cook for 5-6 whistles.
Switch off and let it cool down. - 2
Next heat oil in an iron wok.
- 3
Splutter cumin seeds. Add chopped onion, garlic, green chilies, and grated ginger.
- 4
Saute till onion and garlic become a little brownish.
Next, add ginger garlic paste. Mix and cook till its rawness is lost. - 5
Next, add the chopped tomato. Mix. Next, reduce the heat and add the above-mentioned dry masalas.
- 6
Cook and saute all together till the tomato becomes mushy. (Add little water so that masalas don't burn)
When everything becomes soft and flavours combine well with each other, add some more water.
- 7
Now add to the cooked masala, boiled mixed dal.
Give a nice mix. Mash little dal to make dal thick. - 8
Next, add water to maintain the consistency. Next add garam masala and kasuri methi. Cook for some time.
- 9
Cook it till your preferred consistency. Switch the flame off.
- 10
So hot plain dal tadka is ready to serve!!!
- 11
If you want egg dal tadka then.in a small vessel break an egg. Add salt, turmeric powder, and chili powder. Fluff it up.
Heat oil in a pan. Pour the egg mixture. - 12
Scramble it up.
Now as per your preference, you can either put this scrambled egg into the dal and give a nice gentle mix.
The egg will absorb the flavours of the dal.Else transfer the dal into the serving dish and top it with the scrambled egg.
While eating takes dal and egg else, mix and take.
Eat as you like.Either way, it tastes yummy!!

Serve hot preferably with tandoori roti/ roti.
Another tip to make it more tastier is.if you have mutton or chicken gravy left with you then add that too and accordingly adjust the consistency.
It tastes just wow!!
