This dish is best accompanied by hot steamed rice or roti along with spicy chicken meatballs. This dish will be more amazing if you fry the meatballs and then add it to the gravy.
Steps
- 1
Firstly to make the chicken koftas: In a large mixing bowl add the washed and drained chicken mince. To it add salt, black pepper powder and breadcrumbs.
- 2
Next add the chopped onions, green chillies and coriander leaves.
- 3
Then add the finely chopped garlic and egg. Mix until well combined.
- 4
Apply little oil on your palms. Take a small portion of the mixture and form it into round meatballs. Arrange on a plate and keep it in the refrigerator for about an hour.
- 5
Now to prepare the fried onions: Heat oil in a frying pan. Add the onions and fry until golden brown.
- 6
Remove on tissue paper and allow it to cool.
- 7
Now to make the brown onion paste: Add the fried onions and yogurt into a blender and blend it to a coarse paste without adding water. Set it aside.
- 8
Add the chopped tomatoes into a blender and blend into a puree. Set it aside.
- 9
Keep all the ingredients ready for making the chicken kofta curry.
- 10
Now to start with the making of the chicken kofta curry: Heat oil in a kadai. Add cardamom, cloves and cinnamon and allow it to splutter. Add ginger garlic paste and saute on low heat till the raw smell leaves.
- 11
Add the prepared brown onion paste and saute on low heat for two minutes. Add the tomato puree and saute on low heat for two minutes.
- 12
Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and salt and saute on low heat until oil separates. Add a tablespoon of water to avoid burning the spices. Once the oil separates add water and mix well.
- 13
Cook till it comes to a boil. Reduce the flame to low and cook until the oil separates. Add garam masala powder.
- 14
Add some more red chilli powder. The gravy should be at boiling point when adding the meatballs. Gently slide in the prepared chicken meatballs (koftas).
- 15
Cover and cook on low heat for five minutes. After five minutes remove the lid and gently shake the kadai to turn the koftas. Do not touch the koftas. This helps the koftas to get coated with the gravy. Cover and cook on low heat for another twenty minutes or until the koftas are cooked.

- 17
Delicious Chicken Kofta Curry is ready. Serve it hot with steamed rice or roti and Spicy Chicken Meatballs.
