Cottage Pie

Here's a classic dish which is high up there with my favourite meals. I normally make this dish every week as it's deeeeeeeelicious. Simple to make and a cheap tasty meal too.

Here's a classic dish which is high up there with my favourite meals. I normally make this dish every week as it's deeeeeeeelicious. Simple to make and a cheap tasty meal too.

Add the mince to a pan and using a wooden spoon break up and brown.

Once browned add the chopped onion, carrots and celery and cook for 10 minutes.

Pour in the water till the meat is covered. If you like more gravy add more water. I love gravy! Crumble the oxo cubes in and stir till dissolved. Season with salt and pepper to your liking.

Simmer in a covered pan for 1 hour.

Make up some mashed potato your own way or use my way above. I used low fat spread as it's more healthy. Add a splash of milk if too dry and season with salt. Set to one side.

Pre heat your oven to 190°C.

Grab a sieve and place over a pan and using a ladle spoon the meat mixture into the sieve. Using the ladle squeeze out the gravy into the pan below. Once drained of gravy tip the dry mince mixture into a large Pyrex dish.

Continue the above until all the gravy has been drained from the mince. Thicken the gravy with quixo or bisto.

I add a tablespoon of bisto or quixo to the meat mixture and stir in. Using the back of a spoon flatten and level the meat mixture and top with your mashed potato. Level off with a pallette knife and score with a fork.

Bake in the oven at 190°C until the potato topping is nice and golden brown.

Served with vegetables of your choice and a good drizzle of your homemade gravy. Delicious.
