Soak moong dal for 4 hours. Remove water. Grind little coarsely in mixer. Heat half cup ghee in pan.

When ghee is heated, add grind moong dal. Stir it.

Soak saffron strands in 1/4 cup water.

Combine milk and water. Boil it.

Stir moong dal continuously. Add ghee gradually in 2 to 3 steps.

Dal changes its colour to reddish brown. It will take 30 to 40 minutes to roast dal completely in ghee. Add milk and water mixture and saffron water. Stir it.

Add khoya. Stir for 5 minutes. Add sugar. After adding sugar it started to melt. Add chopped almonds and cashews.

After few minutes halwa becomes thick. Add cardamom powder. Moong dal halwa is ready. Serve hot. It's a perfect dessert to have after lunch and dinner of festivals.
