Medu vada is a very popular and famous South Indian breakfast which is prepared using urad dal. It is served along with sambhar and chutney.

Medu vada is a very popular and famous South Indian breakfast which is prepared using urad dal. It is served along with sambhar and chutney.
Steps

First of all wash and soak udad dal for 4 - 6 hours. Drain it and grind it along with little cold water to a smooth paste. If it is runnny, you can add little bit of semolina.

Now add cumin, black pepper, hing, onion, coconut, green chilli, ginger, curry leaves, coriander leaves and salt to it and give it a good mix. Beat it very well using a big spoon or a whisk. The batter should be light and fluffy. Add a spoonful of batter to a glass full of water, if it floats then the batter is ready to make wada. Now wet your hands and take some batter and make a hole with your wet finger in the middle.

Heat oil in a pan at medium heat. Now very carefully slide the wada to the oil. Now make another wada and add it to the oil. Fry only 3 to 4 Voda at a time. Fry it on medium heat until golden brown from both sides. Prepare all the wada in the same way.

Serve hot medu vada along with sambhar and chutney. It can be served as a breakfast or a light meal.
