Ingredients

2 hours
4 servings
  • 1 cupmoong Daal washed
  • 1 cupmasoor Daal washed
  • 1Medium onion
  • 2tomatoes medium
  • 3-4green chillies
  • 1 tbspGinger Garlic paste
  • 1 tspRed Chilli Powder
  • 1 tspTurmeric powder
  • 1 tspGaram Masala Powder
  • 1 tspRoasted Cumin and Coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • 1-2cinnamon sticks
  • 3-4cloves
  • 1-2big cardamom
  • 1-2bay leaf
  • 2-3Garlic Cloves
  • 1 tspCumin seeds
  • 5-6whole red chillies
  • Oil as required
  • Ghee as required
  • Fresh coriander for garnish

Steps

2 hours
  1. 1

    Mix and soak both daals for at least 2-3 hours. Set aside.

    Take a pan and add oil. Add chopped onions. When the onions start changing color, add chopped tomatoes.

    When the tomatoes get mushy, add half of the green chillies, ginger garlic paste, and everything else except for: Salt, Whole garlic, Cumin seeds, Fresh Coriander, And as mentioned earlier only add half the green chillies here.

    Now add the soaked daal to your mixture and bhunify it.

    Add water and adjust consistency to whatever you like. Not thick or runny, but somewhere in the middle.

    Cook on slow flame for about 30 minutes.

    Use a whisker to blend the daal. Add more water if it is too dry.

    Now add the salt, remaining green chillies, fresh coriander and cumin seeds.
    We didn't add the salt earlier because then the daal would remained solid/raw or separate.

    Baghar:
    In a fry pan, add ghee, garlic, zeera and cumin seeds and whole red chillies. Fry until golden and add to the daal.

  10. 10

    In a thaali or platter, serve daal with plain rice, fried samosa patti, pickled onion, achar and kebabs or whatever you like.
    Enjoy.
