Place a skillet or saucepan onto the stovetop and cook the chopped bacon

While cooking the bacon, in a separate saucepan or pot, bring lightly salted water to a boil and cook your fettuccine pasta until it's al dente.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg and Parmesan. Season with a pinch of salt and generous black pepper.

Just before pasta is ready, reheat bacon in skillet, if needed. Reserve of the pasta water, then drain pasta and add to the skillet over low heat. Stir for a minute or so.

Remove from the stovetop and stir in cheese mixture, adding some reserved pasta water and serve immediately, dressing it with a bit of additional grated Parmesan and pepper.
