Meltingly Soft Cabbage and Meatballs Stewed in Tomatoes

I bought a cabbage and minced meat meaning to make cabbage rolls, but I couldn't be bothered with the amount of work, so I tried making it without wrapping the minced meat. It was a huge success! This is a popular tomato stew at my house.

* I recommend using a large pan since there's a lot of cabbage.
* Since cheese is added at the last step, I don't add salt at Step 9. Add a little salt if you'd like it to be saltier.
You can add garlic powder. For serving 4 to 5. Recipe by Komomomomo

Ingredients

4 servings
  • 1/3Cabbage
  • 300 grams◆ Mixed ground beef and pork
  • 1/2 smallonion ◆ Onion
  • 100 ml◆ Panko
  • 50 ml◆ Milk
  • 1◆ Egg
  • 1/2 tsp◆ Salt
  • 1 dash◆ Pepper
  • 1 dash◆ Nutmeg
  • 400 mlWater
  • 2 tspConsomme stock granules
  • 1 canCanned cut tomatoes
  • 2 tspSugar
  • 2 tbspKetchup
  • 1 tbspJapanese style Worstershire sauce
  • 30to 40 grams Easy melting cheese

Steps

  1. 1

    Mince the onion and roughly chop the cabbage.

  2. 2

    In a bowl, mix the panko and milk then add the ◆ ingredients and knead together by hand.

  3. 3

    Heat a small amount oil in a pan (don't turn on the heat yet), shape the meat mixture from Step 2 into 3 cm balls and place in the pan.

    Turn the heat and fry the outside of the meatballs while rolling them in the pan.

    Once they brown, add water and consomme, bring to a simmer and remove surface scum.

    Layer the meatball with cabbage and tomatoes on top (no mixing required).

    Cover with a lid and simmer for 5 minutes.

    Remove the lid, add the sugar, ketchup, and sauce, and mix together (you can add garlic powder if you like).

    Cover with the lid and simmer for 15 minutes or longer, if you prefer.

    Taste and if it's too bland, season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle cheese on top; once it melts you're done!
