Ingredients

Serves 2 to 3 servings
  • 15shishamo (smelt)
  • 1/2onion
  • 1/3 cup(about 50 grams) carrot, julienned
  • 2green bell peppers
  • Nanban Marinade:
  • 1/2 cup (100 ml)dashi stock
  • 1/2 cup (100 ml)rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoonssugar
  • 2 tablespoonssoy sauce
  • 1dried red chili pepper, sliced into rings

Steps

    Thinly slice the onion. Julienne the carrot and green bell peppers.

  2. 2

    In a container like a Tupperware, mix together the nanban marinade ingredients. Add the prepared vegetables and let them soak.

  3. 3

    Grill the shishamo (smelt) using a fish grill or broiler.

  4. 4

    Once the shishamo are cooked, move the vegetables to the side in the container, place the shishamo in the marinade, and cover them with the vegetables.

  5. 5

    Let everything marinate for about 1 hour before serving. Enjoy!
