Featured in Cookpad News & a trending recipe! Enjoy easy, skewer-free yakitori at home for that izakaya (Japanese pub) vibe. Great as an appetizer, over rice, or packed in a lunchbox.
Recipe background:
At home, we usually eat yakitori with a special miso sauce from Higashimatsuyama called 'Ichiya no Miso Dare.' One time, I forgot to buy it, so I substituted with miso and shichimi togarashi (Japanese seven spice), which inspired this recipe.

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the chicken as needed. Cut the chicken thigh into bite-sized pieces and sprinkle with a little sake (optional: season with salt and pepper). Cut the green onion into 1 1/2-inch (4 cm) pieces.
- 2
Mix all the ● sauce ingredients together in a small bowl.
- 3
Heat a little oil in a skillet. Add the chicken and green onion, and cook over medium heat until browned. (Tip: Let them sear without moving too much for a nice char.)
- 4
Wipe excess oil from the pan with a paper towel. Add the prepared sauce, cover, and steam-cook until the chicken is cooked through.
- 5
When the sauce has mostly evaporated, it's ready! Serve on a plate and enjoy.

Easy Yakitori at Home Easy Yakitori at Home
My family loves yakitori. Since there are lots of hungry boys in my family, it can get expensive to eat out. That's why we try to make it at home. Please adjust the sweetness of the sauce. When the chicken is freshly cooked, dip in the sauce. It prevents the chicken from getting dry. The oil that drips off the chicken when you dip the skewers in it gradually adds flavor to the sauce. You can pour the leftover sauce on top later, use it for a stir-fry, or pour it over rice. For 30 skewers. Recipe by Keikunno okusan cookpad.japan -
