I made rice balls by wrapping seasoned eggs in flavorful rice.

Recipe Inspiration:
While enjoying yu-chan's delicious rice balls, I thought it would be amazing to put a seasoned egg inside. That's how this idea came to me!

Steps

  1. 1

    Make soft-boiled eggs.
For an easy, perfect soft-boiled egg, see ID20137680 on cookpad.com.

  2. 2

I used a small egg. If you use a large egg, the rice ball will be much bigger! If you want a more dramatic rice ball, go with a large egg.

  3. 3

This time, I used an extra soft-boiled egg (almost runny) using recipe ID21551838 on cookpad.com.

  4. 4

    Make your favorite seasoned eggs.
For a low-carb seasoned egg, see recipe ID21549140 on cookpad.com. Thank you to yui maru3 for the inspiration.

  5. 5

    This is also recommended:
For a rich, flavorful seasoned egg, see recipe ID21670813 on cookpad.com.

  6. 6

For a simple, easy seasoned soft-boiled egg, see recipe ID20930279 on cookpad.com. Please check it out if you like.

  7. 7

Place a sheet of plastic wrap on your work surface and add a portion of rice.
For a rice ball with a delicious sesame oil aroma, see recipe ID20741890 on cookpad.com. Thank you to yu228 for the idea.

  8. 8

Place the seasoned egg on top of the rice and shape it into a rice ball.

  9. 9

You can use plain white rice, but if you do, lightly sprinkle salt over the rice before wrapping it with nori.

  10. 10

Wrap the rice ball completely with nori (seaweed).

  11. 11

Tip: After wrapping with nori, wrap the rice ball in plastic wrap and let it sit for a while so the nori softens. Then, cut it in half while still wrapped (thanks to KBB for this tip).

  12. 12

Cut the rice ball in half. Enjoy!

  13. 13

This is great for breakfast—you get both egg and rice in one dish!

  14. 14

YuuLOVEKou made this by creating a pocket in the rice ball and tucking the seasoned egg inside. What a great idea! Feel free to try this method too.

  15. 15

KBB Kitchen wrapped the rice ball in plastic wrap and cut it like a sandwich. Give it a try!

  16. 16

This recipe made it into the top 10 searches for 'Scotch Egg.' It's not exactly a Scotch egg, but I'm happy it was recognized!

  17. 17

This recipe became a trending hit! Thank you to everyone who tried it and shared their feedback!
