Banana flower, first open the outer large petal where you will see the bunch of neatly aligned florets.. take these in your fingers brush the head down on the surface to open them.. you can see the hard tall string like knob structure with a head, pull it out..

And a small translucent cover pull this off too.. this is calyx.. both the pistil and calyx are nonedible parts have to be discarded... Collect all the remaining cleaned florets in the same manner and keep them in immersed Salt water to avoid discoloration.. later chop them finally and use them in vadas, soup, poriyal etc..

Wash both the lentils well and soak them for two hours.

Add dry red chilli, ginger and garlic in a mixer jar and grind coarsely... Add the soaked dal after draining the water well and grind it coarsely...

Mix together all the ingredients except the oil along with the ground dal...

Once everything is mixed together, roll it into balls, flatten it and deep fry it in hot oil...

Now hot delicious banana flower vada is ready it tastes better served with coconut chutney...
