Khatti-Mithi Dal

First soak urad dal in hot water for about an hour or two. Now mix the dals together & wash them well, put them in the pressure cooker; add mango slices in it, some turmeric powder and salt and pressure cook them for 4 to 5 whistles. Now keep this aside.

Now heat a shallow pan. Add 3 tsp of ghee in it. When the ghee becomes hot, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, hing, crushed garlic, slit green chillies and chopped onion. Let them fry for 3 to 4 minutes until the onion becomes soft and tender. Add a pinch of turmeric in between.

Now add the boiled dal mixture in it. If required crush the mango slices. Add sugar or jaggery in it. Check the salt consistency at this stage. Keep the flame low and cook the dal for 3 to 4 minutes. Then switch off the flame.

Now for double tadka, heat a tadka pan, add little oil. When the oil gets hot, switch off the flame. Then add half tsp jeera, mustard seeds and half tsp kashmiri red chilli powder. Now pour this tadka mixture over the dal. Sprinkle some chopped coriander and serve it hot with rice.
