General Tso Chicken

This is my version of the classic General Tso Chicken which is served in almost all American Chinese restaurants. Of course, this is all about the sauce. I used a variety of vegetables in my version and the great thing about a lot of Chinese dishes is you can substitute any vegetables you like.

This is my version of the classic General Tso Chicken which is served in almost all American Chinese restaurants. Of course, this is all about the sauce. I used a variety of vegetables in my version and the great thing about a lot of Chinese dishes is you can substitute any vegetables you like.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Mix all the sauce ingredients in a small pan. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 5 minutes to thicken the sauce. Keep warm while you fry the chicken and cook the vegetables. Note: the sauce is enough to lightly coat all the chicken and vegetables but if you like your food swimming in sauce you will need to make extra.
- 2
Mix chicken in a bowl with the cornstarch to coat the chicken. Fry chicken in batches until chicken is cooked through. I used a small fryer and fried each batch for 1 minute with the oil at 360°F. I needed 5 batches. Set aside.
- 3
In a large skillet or wok add oil and heat up on medium high heat. Add in peppers and onions, and cook to just soften. About 5 minutes. Add in broccoli and cook for 2 minutes to heat the broccoli.
- 4
Add in the chicken and the sauce and mix to coat the chicken and vegetables.
- 5
Serve with rice and enjoy!

The crispiness of the chicken is mostly due to the corn starch in the dry mix. If you like a more saucy dish then I would double the sauce ingredients. Currently this is enough to just coat the chicken.kromed68

I had an urge for Orange chicken or General Tso. Didn't have the stuff to make Orange chicken, but did for General Tso's. Wanted to separate the white and dark meat, this was a good solution. Was still pretty quick and easy this way. If you are not a fan of a super thick sauce, use more broth/water in the sauce. Fo Fa -

Slow Cooker General Tso's Chicken Slow Cooker General Tso's Chicken
I first tried General Tso's Chicken when I was about 13. It was spicy, it was tasty, and it was very different from our usual Chinese Take-out Orders. I loved it at first sight. I started cooking a few years later and was always up for trying to make it, but I was intimidated.A few years ago, I tried to make Orange Chicken and it was very easy to make, so tasty. When we bought our slow cooker about a year ago, I have made a lot of different Asian inspired dishes. I found a few different recipes for General Tso's in the slow cooker, but they either had too many ingredients or the reviews were poor.As usual, I took from a few different recipes, combined them, then added a few other steps of my own. I made this my recipe and loved it. It is so easy to make and very tasty. Hopefully, you will like it as much as I did.Enjoy! J.A.B.
