Wash the daal and soak it for 30 mins

Pour out the soaking water, rinse and add water just enough to cover, and boil the daal in a large pot till tender.

Chop the onions and saute in a pot with veg. Oil till translucent. Add the spices and stir continuously till aromatic.

Once golden, add capsicum and stir till softened. Pour tomato puree, add salt, mix, and cover for 3 mins on medium-high heat.

The tomato will thicken, and the oil will begin to separate at the top. It's time to add the cooked daal. Add some hot water, stir, and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes on low heat covered.

Daal is ready to serve.
You may eat with flatbread, rice or puri.
