Makeshift Steak Pie

This was never meant to be a proper steak pie, just a “use what’s in the kitchen” moment that turned out too good to stay in the drafts. Just comfort, flavour, and a little improvisation. Sometimes the best recipes are the ones that happen by accident 😉 #CA2025. Might just be my closing post for the year 2025.

Steps
- 1
Gather ingredients. Either massage seasoning into beef and set aside to marinate for 30 minutes to an hour or add seasoning directly into the beef as you fry it
- 2
Fry beef in oil over high heat until no longer pink. Add onions and garlic and sauté until tender. Add seasoning and mix thoroughly (if you did not already use the seasoning to marinate the beef)
- 3
Add the Worcestershire sauce and thicken the sauce by dissolving the flour in some beef stock and pouring into the pan. Stir to combine, cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until the meat is tender and cooked through
- 4
Allow the meat to cool slightly. Meanwhile, spread 1 pastry sheet into a 9” tart pan, covering the base and sides. Pour cooked meat into the pan and cover with the last sheet of pastry, pinching the sides secure
- 5
Poke holes with a fork or knife to allow air out without breaking the pie while it cooks. Brush the top with eggwash
- 6
Bake in a preheated oven at 180C for 35 - 40 minutes or until golden and cooked through
- 7
Slice and serve warm
