Shrimp Rice Porridge (For Kids 1 Year and Up)

A low-sugar rice porridge for kids ages 1 and up who are not allergic to shrimp. This is a meal kids can enjoy even as they grow older. I made this for my 5-year-old as a breakfast when they had a cold.

A low-sugar rice porridge for kids ages 1 and up who are not allergic to shrimp. This is a meal kids can enjoy even as they grow older. I made this for my 5-year-old as a breakfast when they had a cold.

Boil the shrimp until cooked, then cut into pieces and set aside.

Bring water to a boil in a pot. Add the garlic and cilantro root. You can also use the water from boiling the shrimp for extra flavor, or substitute with pork bone broth. (If using other broths, you can skip the garlic and cilantro root.)

Add the cooked rice to the pot and simmer until soft.

Add the sliced shiitake mushrooms. Season with light soy sauce and a little black pepper.

Once the mushrooms are cooked, add the shrimp and simmer for a short time.

Serve to your child. You can remove the cilantro root and garlic before serving if desired.
