Pork Tamal

Guanacaste-style tamales are a traditional Costa Rican treat made from corn dough, seasoned with local flavors and cooked in banana leaves. Pork Tamal

Thoroughly clean the banana leaves. Blend the bell pepper, onion, garlic, culantro, parsley, celery, and lard until smooth.

Mix the masa with the mashed potato, blended mixture, all-purpose seasoning, chicken bouillon, cumin, salt, pepper, oregano, and lard.

Set aside a portion of the masa and mix it with annatto and lard to make red masa.

On the banana leaf, place white masa, then red masa, rice, pork, and vegetables.

Prepare the pork: season with garlic, oregano, and salt.

Wrap and tie the tamales with kitchen twine. Steam until fully cooked.
