Doodh Poha is also called poha kheer. It can be prepared in two ways. One is without cooking and boiling milk and other is with cooking and boiling milk. Basically this delicacy is poha soaked in sweetened milk with dry fruits.
This delicacy has special religious importance also. It is specially consumed on Sharad Poonam or Kojagiri Poonam in Gujarat and Maharastra. It is said and believed that the moon light of this poonam has a special power. So doodh poha is prepared and kept on terrace or where moon light rays falls on it for 2-4 hours at least , covered by muslin cloth or sieve and then consumed. According to Ayurveda, by consuming this moonlight absorbed doodh poha, we get relief from "Pitta" (acidity) which aggravates more after monsoon season. In short, moonlight of this night has amazing nourishing and medical benefits.

Ingredients

30 minutes
4 persons
  • 1 literfull cream milk
  • 1/2 cuppoha (flattened rice)
  • 1/4 cupsugar
  • 2 tbspalmond flakes
  • 2 tbsppistachio flakes
  • 1 tspcardamom powder
  • 1 tspsaffron (soaked in milk)

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

    Add milk in heavy bottom pan and let it boil on medium flame. Wash poha and let it dry.

    After 5-7 minutes add sugar and let it boil for more 5 minutes. Now add dried poha and mix well.

    Further add saffron, almonds, pistachio, mix and cook for 5 minutes.

    Once the milk is thickened and poha is also cooked well, add cardamom powder and turn off the heat.

    Serve chilled.

Tips

Can add nutmeg powder , cashew nut and kismis also.
