Ingredients

45-60 minutes
2 whole pizzas
  1. For the base
  2. 150 gplain flour
  3. 150 gwholemeal flour
  4. OR 300g bread flour
  5. 1 tspyeast
  6. Pinchsalt
  7. 1 tbspolive oil
  8. 180 mllukewarm water
  9. For the sauce
  10. 1 can (400 g)chopped tomatoes
  11. 3 clovesgarlic
  12. 1/2medium white onion (sliced)
  13. 1 tbsporegano
  14. 1 tbspcaster sugar
  15. Pinchsalt
  16. Pinchpepper
  17. (2 Conet chillies if you want to make it hot)

Steps

45-60 minutes

    Mix together the yeast, salt and flour in a bowl and form a hole in the middle.

    Pour the water and oil into the hole and fold the flour into it. Mix it all together to form a dough.

    Knead the dough on a floured surface for a few minutes then leave it in a bowl. Now for the sauce!

  4. 4

    Pour the tomatoes into a saucepan and add the onions, oregano, garlic and salt. Stir on a medium heat.

  5. 5

    Add the rest of the ingredients to the sauce, mix it all together nicely.

  6. 6

    Using an electric blender, blend the sauce until there are no lumps left. Turn the heat down to a low heat and add water to keep the saucy consistency you want.

    Knead the dough again, then cut it in half. Knead one half of the dough and, with a rolling pin, make a rough circle (the larger it is the thinner the base will be).

  8. 8

    Cut off the edges of the base to make it more circular, then use these bits to form a nice, even crust.

  9. 9

    Lightly brush the base and crust with butter, then add half of the sauce, toppings and cheese. Repeat the last 3 steps for the other half of the dough.

    Whack it in the oven for 10-15 minutes at 200°C, rotate it 180° then put it back in for another 10-15 minutes until the cheese has melted and the crust has browned.
