Ingredients

  1. 3 tbspolive oil
  2. 3 largeonions, diced
  3. 2 1/2 cupwater
  4. 1/4 tsppepper
  5. 1/4 tspsage
  6. 1/2 cupwheat free tamari (thick soy sauce - I used reduced sodium)
  7. 3/4 cupcashew butter (sold next to the peanut butter or you can make your own by super grinding cashews in a food processor but it won't be as creamy)

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add the onions and cook until caramel in color, about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 3

    As the onions become browner, stir more frequently.

  4. 4

    Add the cashew butter, tamari, water and spices and cook until heated through.

  5. 5

    Place in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.

  6. 6

    Be careful blending, as hot liquids tend to foam up - fill it only halfway.

  7. 7

Some of my favorite things are family, friends, my pets, cooking, baking, football (Badger & Packer), Brewer baseball, college basketball, car racing, thrift stores, volunteering, and rummage sales. I have a 9 year old rescue dog, and 7 birds ( 6 are rescue) and they range in age from 1 year to over 19 years old. I volunteer for a dog rescue and a shelter, as well as other festivals and organizations.
