For years the only, and best, mac n cheese i ever made was my grandmas, but during a move my special Pyrex casserole for making it was lost (sob), so i didnt even try to make it. Then i came upon the Progresso cheese sauce with a recipe for bacon mac n cheese and couldn't resist, but of course by the time i was done tweaking it, it was something totally my own! and ALMOST as good as my grandmas...lol

Ingredients

6 servings
  1. 1 lbcooked (al dente) penne pasta
  2. 2 9 oz pouches Pregresso Recipe Starters 3 cheese cooking sauce
  3. 1/4 cuplight cream
  4. 1/2 cupmilk (or just use 3/4 cup if you dont have cream)
  5. 4 cupshredded extra sharp cheddar cheese
  6. 8 sliceamerican cheese
  7. 8 slicecooked and crumbled crispy bacon
  8. 2 tbspyellow mustard
  9. 1 dashwhite pepper
  10. 1/2 cupitalian panko bread crumbs with cheese (or just mix plain panko with italian bread crumbs)

Steps

  1. 1

    preheat oven to 400, spray 3 quart casserole with cooking spray.

  2. 2

    in a 3 quart saucepan, heat cheese sauce, milk, and cream to boiling. stir. remove from heat and stir in mustard, american cheese, 2 cups cheddar, and pepper. stir until cheeses are melted. add pasta and half the bacon, mix well.

  3. 3

    spoon pasta mix into casserole, top with remaining cheddar. bake uncovered about 15 minutes and cheese is bubbly.

  4. 4

    sprinkle with bread crumbs and cook an additional 5 minutes. enjoy! **note: measurements for cheddar and bacon are suggestions based on what i use, feel free to add more if you prefer! :-P

im an italian mom from nj with 3 very fussy eaters...3 kids (ages 16, 20 & 24) :D very hard to find dishes they all agree on, and now my oldest became a vegetarian so even harder! lol. but love this app and all the great people! i love cooking for and spending time with my family. all things beauty, true crime books and shows,and I'm very interested in homeopathic and natural cures, and living a positive and grateful life... and im a diehard NY Ranger fan.oh, and i LOVE bacon! so thats me :-)
